Awaiting the Highly-Anticipated Model

Initially slated for a late 2023 launch, the 2025 CX-70—a highly-anticipated addition to the midsize SUV segment—is now set to release in 2024. While we anxiously await more information about its official reveal and release, let’s look at what we know about the 2025 CX-70.

The upcoming CX-70 will share features with both the CX-60 and the CX-90. It’s expected to be very similar to the European CX-60 model but with a slightly wider body. The CX-70 will utilize the same longitudinal-engine platform as the CX-90, thereby extending the versatility and reliability of this proven architecture.

It will also likely share powertrains with the CX-90, including a hybrid option. Mazda is set to embrace environmentally-friendly practices by offering a hybrid powertrain for the CX-70, marking another significant step toward sustainable mobility.

The PHEV variant uses a 2.5-liter inline-four gasoline engine coupled with an electric motor that delivers a total system output of 323 horsepower. The 2025 Mazda CX-70 is set to launch in 2024. It features an eight-speed automatic transmission with a wet clutch. The CX-90’s 14.8-kWh battery pack offers an EPA-estimated 25 miles of electric range.

Additionally, we may see the CX-90’s turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six engine make its way into the CX-70, providing another powerful option for buyers.

We are very excited at the potential the CX-70 is showing already, even with the limited information.

With the phasing out of the CX-9 and the MX-30 after the 2023 model year, Mazda is making room for more vibrant models, including a prospective electric SUV to launch by 2025. As we eagerly anticipate more details on the upcoming all-electric SUV and the CX-70, the future of Mazda looks bright and promising.
